Please read these Terms & Conditions (the “Terms”) carefully before using The Mutapa Times website at mutapatimes.com (the “Site”). By accessing, browsing, subscribing to, or otherwise using the Site you agree to be legally bound by these Terms. If you do not agree with any part of them, you must stop using the Site immediately.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing the Site you confirm that you are at least 16 years old (or the age of digital consent in your jurisdiction) and that you have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement. These Terms apply to all visitors, readers, subscribers, and contributors of any kind. If you are using the Site on behalf of an organisation, you warrant that you have authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.

2. Who we are

The Mutapa Times (“we”, “us”, “our”) is a digital news and intelligence publication operated as a sole-trader project from the United Kingdom. We are not a regulated financial institution, employment agency, immigration adviser, or estate agent. Contact details are in section 29.

3. What the Site does

The Site is an editorial aggregator and curator of Zimbabwe-related content. It includes, in particular:

• A news feed compiled from third-party publishers and news APIs (Reuters, The Guardian, NYT, Bloomberg, AP, AFP, Al Jazeera, Xinhua, Zimbabwean local press, Google News RSS, GNews, NewsAPI, Newsdata.io, Mediastack, Perigon, and others).
• A live foreign-exchange page (/fx.html) sourced from exchangerate-api.com and the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe composite.
• A weather page powered by Open-Meteo.
• A property listings feed scraped from property.co.zw with link-out to the original listings.
• A job-vacancy feed scraped from vacancymail.co.zw with link-out to the original postings.
• A free email newsletter delivered via Brevo (sendinblue.com).
• Social media accounts on X / Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Threads, Instagram, and TikTok under the handle @mutapatimes.

We do not produce original investigative reporting. Where we render branded headline cards from third-party stories, those cards are tools of curation and attribution — they always credit the original publisher and link to the original article.

4. Third-Party Content & Fair Dealing

All headlines, summaries, descriptions, images, and other content sourced from third-party publishers remain the copyright of the respective publisher. We display this content under the doctrines of fair dealing (UK Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, sections 30 & 30A — reporting current events, quotation, and news-of-the-day reporting) and equivalent fair use provisions in other jurisdictions, on the following basis:

• Only headlines and brief excerpts are reproduced — not full articles.
• Every aggregated item carries a clear “via [Publisher]” or “Source: [Publisher]” attribution.
• Each item links directly to the publisher's original article, driving traffic to them rather than capturing it.
• Our use is transformative: we curate, contextualise, and add commentary, summary, or design value.
• Use is non-substitutive: our presentation does not replace the publisher's own commercial exploitation of the work.

If you are a rights-holder and believe our use exceeds fair dealing, please follow the takedown process in section 5 and we will respond promptly.

5. Copyright Takedown Notice

The Mutapa Times respects intellectual-property rights and complies with the European Union's e-Commerce Directive (and equivalent “notice-and-takedown” obligations under UK and US law, including the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, 17 U.S.C. § 512).

To request removal of material you believe infringes your copyright, send a written notice to [email protected] with the subject line “Copyright Takedown”. The notice must include:

• Your name, postal address, telephone number, and email address.
• Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed.
• The full URL on this Site where the allegedly infringing material is located.
• A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorised by the rights-holder, an agent, or the law.
• A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are authorised to act on behalf of the rights-holder.
• Your physical or electronic signature.

We will acknowledge receipt within 5 business days and, where a notice appears valid, remove or disable access to the material in question. Repeat infringers will be removed permanently from the feed. We may share the notice (with personal details redacted) with the originating publisher.

6. Our Intellectual Property

The Mutapa Times name, masthead, mastiff-styled logo, page designs, headline-card templates, custom imagery, original editorial commentary, the “Southern Africa outside-in” tagline, and all source code on the Site are the intellectual property of The Mutapa Times. You may not reproduce, modify, distribute, broadcast, publicly display, frame, embed, scrape, or create derivative works from these elements without our prior written permission, save for the limited uses permitted by these Terms (e.g. linking to articles, sharing posts from our social accounts via the platforms' own native sharing features, and quoting for the purposes of criticism, review, or news reporting under applicable fair-dealing law).

7. Third-Party Trademarks

References on the Site to third-party brands — including but not limited to Reuters, The Guardian, Bloomberg, Mukuru, Wise, WorldRemit, Remitly, Western Union, Mama Money, Sasai, EcoCash, RBZ, ZSE, Open-Meteo, and any newspaper, mobile-money operator, financial institution, government body, or sports team mentioned in our coverage — are used nominatively for identification and reporting only. All trademarks, service marks, logos, and trade names are the property of their respective owners. No endorsement, affiliation, sponsorship, or partnership is implied by such references.

8. Accuracy of Aggregated Data

We make no warranty — express or implied — as to the accuracy, completeness, currency, fitness for purpose, or reliability of any information displayed on the Site, including (without limitation) news headlines and summaries, foreign-exchange rates, property prices and listings, job vacancies, weather forecasts, economic statistics, and any data ingested from third-party APIs or RSS feeds. Such information is indicative and may be out of date, inaccurate, or rendered inaccurate by changes in upstream sources. You must independently verify any information before acting on it.

9. No Financial, Legal, Tax, Immigration, Medical or Professional Advice

This applies in particular to the foreign-exchange, economy, and property pages, which present indicative market data only and must not be treated as a recommendation to buy, sell, hold, exchange, or transfer any currency, security, or property interest.

10. Money-Transfer Provider Comparisons

The Site features a money-transfer comparison calculator that estimates recipient amounts across services such as Wise, Mukuru, WorldRemit, Remitly, Western Union, Mama Money, and Sasai. The figures shown are based on indicative public-tier exchange-rate margins and fees that we maintain manually and review quarterly. They do not reflect promotional rates, first-transfer discounts, hidden fees, pay-in method surcharges, payout-method differences, currency-volatility intraday movement, or any other variable that may apply to your specific transaction. You must verify the actual rate, fees, and terms on the chosen provider's own website before sending money. Outbound links to providers may include referral or affiliate parameters; this does not affect the price you pay, and we do not receive payment for any specific recommendation.

11. Job Listings

The vacancies displayed on the jobs page are aggregated from vacancymail.co.zw and other public job boards. We do not verify the legitimacy, accuracy, currency, or legality of any posting. We are not a party to any application, offer, contract of employment, or related dispute. Apply directly via the original publisher's site; never pay a fee to apply for a role, never send identity documents or money in response to a vacancy without due diligence, and report suspicious postings to us via section 29.

12. Property Listings

Property listings shown on the Site are aggregated from property.co.zw and similar public portals. We do not list property ourselves, do not act as agent for any party, and accept no responsibility for the accuracy of the price, location, condition, ownership, or legal status of any listed property. Any transaction is between you and the listing agent or seller, conducted entirely outside the Site.

13. Newsletter & Email Communications

By subscribing to our free newsletter you consent to receive editorial emails (typically twice a week — Mondays and Thursdays) at the address you provide. The newsletter is sent via Brevo (formerly Sendinblue, a French data processor — sendinblue.com). Brevo processes your email address, IP address, open/click events, and device metadata on our behalf. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email or by emailing [email protected]; we will action requests within 14 days. We do not sell, rent, lend, or otherwise share your subscriber list with third parties for marketing purposes.

14. Disclaimers (“as is”)

The Site and all content are provided strictly on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we exclude all representations, warranties, and conditions (whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise), including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, satisfactory quality, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, accuracy, uninterrupted availability, or freedom from viruses, malicious code, or other harmful components.

15. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, in no event shall The Mutapa Times, its operator, contributors, or affiliates be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages whatsoever (including loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, business interruption, or any other commercial damage or loss) arising out of or in connection with: (a) your use of, or inability to use, the Site or any content thereon; (b) any inaccuracy in or reliance on aggregated information; (c) decisions made or actions taken on the basis of money-transfer comparisons, property listings, job listings, or financial data; (d) acts of third-party publishers, providers, or sites linked from ours; or (e) unauthorised access to or alteration of your data — even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damage.

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.

16. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless The Mutapa Times and its operator from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to: (a) your misuse of the Site or breach of these Terms; (b) your violation of any law or the rights of any third party; or (c) any content you submit, post, or transmit through the Site (including via email or social media).

17. Privacy, Cookies & Analytics

We collect the minimum information necessary to operate and improve the Site. The categories of data processed are:

• Browser local storage — caches news data, your cookie-consent choice, and UI preferences on your device. This data never leaves your browser.
• Google Analytics 4 (property G-XQPRFK7JTB, controller: Google LLC and Google Ireland Limited) — collects anonymised page-view, device, and approximate-location data with IP truncation enabled. Used to understand traffic patterns.
• Contentsquare — collects anonymised session-replay and heatmap data for UX research.
• Metricool tracker — tracks the effectiveness of our social-media posts in driving Site traffic.
• Brevo — processes newsletter subscriber data on our behalf (see section 13).
• Server logs — GitHub Pages, which hosts the Site, records standard HTTP access logs (IP address, user agent, request URL, timestamp) for abuse mitigation. We do not have direct access to these logs.

We do not sell personal data. We do not use Site data for ad-targeting. By continuing to use the Site after dismissing the cookie banner you consent to the cookies and tracking technologies described above. You may withdraw consent at any time by clearing your browser storage and disabling third-party cookies for this domain.

18. Your Data Rights (UK GDPR / EU GDPR)

If you are in the United Kingdom, European Union, or another jurisdiction that grants statutory data-protection rights, you have the right to: (a) request access to the personal data we hold about you; (b) request correction of inaccurate data; (c) request erasure of your data (“right to be forgotten”); (d) request restriction of processing; (e) object to processing; (f) request data portability; and (g) lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office — ico.org.uk). To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. We will respond within one month.

19. Children's Privacy

The Site is not directed at children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such data, contact us under section 29 and we will delete it.

20. External Links & Third-Party Sites

The Site contains hyperlinks to websites operated by third parties. Such links are provided for convenience and editorial purposes only. We do not control, review, or endorse the content, policies, or practices of any third-party site, and we accept no responsibility for them or for any loss or damage that may arise from your use of them. The presence of a link does not constitute endorsement.

21. Translation

The Site uses Google Translate to offer pages in Shona, Ndebele, and English. Translated text is generated automatically and may contain inaccuracies, omissions, or culturally insensitive wording. The English version is the authoritative version in case of any discrepancy.

22. Linking to the Site

You are welcome to link to any page of the Site provided the link does not: (a) suggest any form of endorsement or association where none exists; (b) misrepresent your relationship with us; (c) frame the Site or its content within a third-party site without our prior written consent; or (d) appear on a site that engages in or promotes illegal activity, hate speech, defamation, or infringement. We reserve the right to withdraw permission to link to the Site without notice.

23. Anti-Spam Policy

You agree not to use the Site, its newsletter form, its contact email, or its social-media channels to send unsolicited commercial messages, phishing attempts, malware, or any communication that violates the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations or equivalent anti-spam laws. Subscriber data harvested in violation of this policy will result in immediate termination of access and may be reported to relevant authorities.

24. Service Availability & Changes to the Site

We provide the Site free of charge and on a best-efforts basis. We make no guarantee that the Site will be available at any particular time, will function without interruption, or will be preserved in any particular form. We may add, remove, suspend, or change features (including the news feed, FX page, jobs page, property page, and newsletter) at any time, without notice and without liability.

25. Force Majeure

We will not be liable for any failure to perform our obligations under these Terms where such failure results from causes beyond our reasonable control, including (without limitation) acts of God, war, terrorism, civil unrest, pandemic, internet or telecommunications failure, hosting-provider outage (in particular GitHub Pages downtime), upstream API or RSS-feed failure, governmental action, or labour disputes.

26. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, that provision shall be severed and the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect to the maximum extent permitted by law.

27. Governing Law & Jurisdiction

These Terms and any dispute or claim (including non-contractual disputes or claims) arising out of or in connection with them or their subject matter shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. You and we agree that the courts of England and Wales shall have exclusive jurisdiction to settle any such dispute, save that this clause does not affect statutory consumer rights you may have in your country of habitual residence.

28. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms at any time without prior notice. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the latest revision. Material changes will be flagged on the homepage or via the newsletter where reasonably practicable. Your continued use of the Site after publication of revised Terms constitutes acceptance of those revised Terms.
