This Privacy Policy explains what personal information The Mutapa Times (“we”, “us”, the “Site”) collects when you use mutapatimes.com, how we use it, who we share it with, and what your rights are. We aim to keep this short, plain-English and accurate.
1. Who we are
The Mutapa Times is an independent business and intelligence newspaper operated from the United Kingdom. We are the data controller for any personal information collected through the Site under the UK GDPR.
2. What we collect
- Email address if you subscribe to the newsletter or fill in a contact form.
- Browser and device data (IP address, user agent, screen size, country, referrer) collected automatically by our analytics and tracking services when you visit the Site.
- Reading behaviour (pages viewed, articles read, time on page, clicks, scroll depth) collected by analytics so we can understand which coverage matters to readers.
- Comments and replies you send us by email or social media.
We do not ask for, store or process any payment information, government IDs, or sensitive personal data (health, religion, etc.).
3. How we use it
- To deliver the newsletter — if you subscribe, we use your email solely to send you the briefings you signed up for, and you can unsubscribe with one click from any email.
- To improve the Site — we use aggregated analytics to understand which articles, sections and features matter to readers so we can publish better content.
- To respond to you — if you email us, we keep the thread so we can follow up.
- To meet legal obligations — for example, retaining records where required by law.
4. Cookies & local storage
We use a small number of cookies and browser local-storage entries to:
- Cache news data so the Site loads quickly on repeat visits.
- Remember your “viewed” state on the stories rail so it doesn’t re-show stories you’ve already seen.

- Brevo (formerly Sendinblue) — stores subscriber email addresses and sends the newsletter. See Brevo’s privacy policy.

6. How long we keep it
- Newsletter emails: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
- Analytics data: aggregated indefinitely; individual records retained per the service’s default (typically 14 months for GA4).
- Inbound emails: retained while the conversation is active and for a reasonable period afterwards in case of follow-up.
7. Your rights
Under the UK GDPR you have the right to:
- Ask what personal data we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct or delete it.
- Withdraw consent (e.g. by unsubscribing from the newsletter) at any time.
- Lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
